so last night i went on a hike by myself and it was very relaxing. on my way back down i did see kathy griffin. i did not disturb her because she was by herself also and clearly in the zone. she was walking fast and wearing headphones. she smiled at me which was very nice of her. almost as if she knew i’m dying to chat with her about sociopathic brothers and bangin’ bods over the age of 35. she’s 50 and she has a rockin’ bod.

speaking of sociopaths, did you happen to catch this american life?  it’s all about the psychopath test. coincidentally, i’m headed to the library right now to pick up a copy of the psychopath test that i reserved on nora’s recommendation.

i was hoping to see kathy griffin on my hike so i could tell her i just finished her book. i was going to tell her to read the sociopath next door since it sounds like her brother is one too. i thought we could commiserate. i didn’t see her, but i did see rufus sewell. he is sexy hot. i’ve seen him before and once i even caught him checking me out. that’s right. yeah, my mom was super excited when i shared that little story with her. she told all her friends. obviously they were excited because they all watch masterpiece theater on the regular…not just downton abbey. anyway, i should mention that the only other celebrity that i’ve caught checking me out was famke janssen. she’s hot and so is her dog.

it’s worth noting

that right now at 6:07pm it is still light outside. the weather in la is fucking phenomenal today. 

i feel like everyone should be jealous. this one time (15 years ago) when i was in jamaica i was on a cliffside with hammocks overlooking the ocean and stoned out of my mind. there is video of my friend and me talking about how everyone should be jealous of us right at that very moment. being high, in a hammock, on a cliffside overlooking the ocean in jamaica - everyone should be jealous.

hiking essentials

1. blublockers - making the colors of the mountain come alive, duh.
2. kicks with tread - so you don’t fall off the mountain
3. hat - avoid cancer and looking old before your time
4. hip pack - for phone & keys. try not to be humiliated when the american apparel sales clerk tells you “we’re moving away from that” when you want to buy another one.

i’ll add that a friend or jamz are essential too and water if you feel like carrying it. don’t be stupid, the phone is important.

microclimates

lately, hiking in la has been a lot like hiking in san francisco. it’s sunny and then cold. it’s windy and then hot and still. i’m usually pretty good at dressing myself appropriately for the elements, but this is hard. when in doubt, wear a vest. fingerless gloves are invaluable because there is nothing worse than chapped hands. these microclimates make it impossible to guess what kind of view of the ocean you’re going to see when you climb up high enough on the mountain. yesterday it was foggy and you could not see a thing. on monday there was a perfect view of the ocean and even the isthmus on catalina. 

Last weekend Kathy Griffin waved to Wayne after he said, “I love you.” That woman is awesome and she’s always up there with her gay bestie just like me.

Anyway, I lamented to Wayne last night that I was wanting to be treated like a princess. Judge all you want because I know it’s not socially acceptable to actually say out loud that you want to be treated like a princess, but motherfuckin’ fuck, it is so nice sometimes to have someone else help out and to feel supported. I haven’t dated anyone since I got cats (insert spinster joke here) and you know, I’m my own woman so if something needs to get done, I fucking take care of it.

Wayne, who makes me laugh harder than anyone else, swiftly replied to my princess aspirations by saying, “hipster boys want to be the princess.” Don’t I fuckin’ know it! All these dudes who check themselves out in the mirror more than I do can think about is how does this woman (i should prolly say girl here) make me feel? Most of these hipster dudes are kidding themselves that they want to be in a relationship or that they have the mental capacity to engage in something meaningful. The real problem is that these dudes who want to be princesses are not thinking to themselves, how can I make this woman (girl) happy? Honestly, it’s as simple as that. These guys are so caught up with themselves that they can’t even take into CONSIDERATION the feelings or happiness of others. It’s all about them.

hazy view of the ocean on my hike yesterday. it felt so good to soak up some sunshine and to hike at a decent hour instead of rushing home from work to hike in the dark.

i got a text from nora that read

boy do i love being away from work…helps me put perspective on things to realize it isn’t me…job situation i’m in just blows.

and that there sums up how i’ve been feeling since break started. it’s not me. 

today i went on a perfect hike with wayne.
